We are the Cal Poly Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (UROV) team.

California Polytechnic University (Cal Poly) UROV (Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle) team is a student-led project committed to developing the next iteration of our UROV for the MATEROV competition while fostering hands-on, interdisciplinary learning. Our primary mission is to create an educational environment where team members gain practical engineering experience, prepare for careers in industry, and cultivate a lasting interest in both robotics and environmental sciences.

Competition

"The MATE ROV Competition uses underwater robotics (UROV's) to inspire and challenge students to learn and creatively apply scientific, engineering, and technical skills to solving real-world problems. This competition challenges K-12, community college, and university students from all over the world to tackle missions based on scenarios from the workplace, encouraging students to work together, network, and learn from technical professionals and each other." - MTS/MATE

2025-2026 Season Updates

The team is actively working towards developing our 2025-2026 ROV for the MATE ROV Competition 2026 World Championship in Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada.

Unlike previous seasons, the 2026 demonstrations require teams to navigate harsh environments with their ROVs. Teams are required to complete challenges in ice tanks, against simulated underwater currents, and against extreme waves and wind conditions.

Work on the ROV will continue through the Spring semester until the Championship event in June.
